Linn County Races

As I noted in the earlier live blog, I planned to give an update on the Linn County races, since the filing deadline only recently passed. In looking at the information Auditor Joel Miller and his staff have provided on the county website there is really no reason for me to attempt to recreate the chart here. Click over on the above link to see the full list of candidates.

There are seven available slots -- auditor, sheriff and five county supervisors. In total, 23 people have filed. The gut-wrenching part for me personally is that only four women have stepped forward to run for county office -- two of them running against one another in a Democratic primary. The women are:

  • Lu Barron (incumbent) - Supervisor District 1
  • Linda Langston (incumbent ) - Supervisor District 2
  • Bernita Rozinek - Supervisor District 2
  • Mary Lundby (current Iowa senator) - Supervisor District 4

Hi, I was wondering if you could direct me to a Iowa site that keeps track of the votes of my resprestatives in the Iowa Legislature. I've fired off emails to both of mine over the HPV bill and want to see how one voted and keep track as to how the other does vote. Any ideas?

Sherry, unfortunately, I know of no true easy way to access that information. The best way I've found takes time. Go to the Iowa General Assembly page:
http://www.legis.state.ia.us/

From there, you can find the schedules, current action and even listen to the floor debates. There are daily journal files, and within those the votes are listed. You can also search for a specific bill and then look at the actions related to that particular bill.

Here's a link to the page for the HPV bill. On the left sidebar, you'll see a section "Last 3 Actions" that has links to the specific journals (either SJ for Senate Journal or HJ for House Journal) that will list details about the actions taken.

Hope this helps!
